To emphasise the omnipresent state of impermanence in life, Annemarie Slobbe (The Netherlands,1990) uses time as a central component in her practice. Rhythmic shapes arise on her canvas, only to transform and disappear into the void. She processes her materials to create compositions that are receptive to the changing daylight; This results in a constant movement game between the spectator and the work.
The layer of changeability within her work acts as a visual reference to the fact that we do not always have control over life, but that there is balance to be found in the acceptance of transformation.
Unconventional use of colour, compelling brushstrokes, pulsating repetitive movements and the continuous play with (day) light cause a visual space walk that you would like to be part of with Annemarie Slobbe as your guide.
Annemarie Slobbe lives and works in the Netherlands.
