Lilian Cooper, was born in Paris, France and is of mixed Dutch and British origin. In her drawings she focuses on nature and climate change. The fragility of the eco-system is central to her practice.
The current series "Entermorpha plumosa" is part of the recent algae herbarium series. In 2019 Cooper was a visiting researcher at the State Herbarium of South Australia. The "Entremorpha plumosa" series forms part of this research.

Cooper has a long research career, working in residency programmes and drawing projects world-wide. These include Byrdcliffe Colony, Woodstock NY; Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada; Weir Farm, National Historic Site Connecticut.
Cooper graduated in 1992 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam, the Netherlands with a degree in Fine Arts. Her first degree is in Architecture. Her work is exhibited and in collections in Europe, Canada, USA, Japan and South Korea. Including Portland Museum of Art and Missouri State University, USA; Geumgang National Museum, South Korea; Shetland Museum, UK; Tempus Arti, Belgium, curated by Jan Hoet; Art Affairs Gallery, Amsterdam, & Museum Rijswijk the Netherlands.
She presently is a visiting artist at Hortus Botanicus Leiden and more recently at Naturalis, where she is continuing her research.
