In the Druze society in which Ziyan was raised, strict rules are imposed on the conduct of women, both with their families and at any other time. Rules that silence them and imprison them. The artist serves as a voice and means for visual expression for these never-heard women.
For Ziyan, art constitutes a space in which a different reality may be woven, one that abolishes the dictates of an oppressive and unequal society. Art is an opportunity to create events that have yet to transpire.
